150th year of India's First War of Independence to be inaugurated- Hindustan Times
India is celebrating 150th anniversary of the Rising Day - Gadar. The significance of Gadar in India's freedom struggle does not need further elaboration. Today is the day to pay our tributes to the people who launched the freedom movement against a very powerful empire. In 1857 it would have been hard to imagine what a free India of 2007 would look like. Lets bow in honour of great martyrs who showed us the way to a free and democratic life. We should be grateful to them for showing us the path to freedom and liberty. As we wipe our tears in the memory of Gadar martyrs, we must remind ourselves that freedom and liberty did not come cheap. We must be grateful to those who had no hesitation in paying the price for freedom with their lives. They may no longer be with us because all humans come to the world as travellers but their memories are enshrined in the soul of the nation, people's freedom and country's desire to promote democratic values.
