Poll Shows Opposition to Iraq War at All Time High - New York Times

63% of Americans disapprove the way President Bush is doing his job. There are plenty of claims and counter claims about who won the first round of war between Democrats and Republicans on the issue of conditional war funding. Democrats are wise enough to take this conditional war funding battle to the next round instead of giving an anxiety attack to voters while 2008 elections are 17 months away. Democrats know it well that if the GOP continues its support for war, there is a fair chance of political Tsunami -08 in favor of democrats. It is in the best interests of the democrats to linger on this battle of war funding because for all practical purposes, the Congress don't have the votes or will power to shut off the money supply to Iraq war. Growing opposition to war is also going to support democrats in Presidential polls in Nov 2008. Investigations launched by various Congressional committees (into the workings of the Bush administration) would at least generate negative public impression of the Bush administration and the GOP. It is not a far fetched imagination if these investigations yield some prosecutions of present or former members of Bush administration.

Furthermore, I am looking with a magnifying glass to find a credible GOP presidential candidate acceptable to the GOP base, so far I have failed to find one person who can challenge the democrats in 2008. Both McCain and Guilaini are moving away from what they have believed in for many years. They are changing positions and making statements that will most likely make them unacceptable to both the GOP base and the Independents. In today's America you can not be pro war with anti war views and pro choice with anti abortion stand at the same time. The speed at which the world is changing, the younger Americans would care less about these issues. GOP may find itself standing on the odd side of issues because next 50 years will demand that Americans become more educated, competitive, and global. All this pressure will give little time to young America to get carried away by these debates of present day.
